Uche Okugo’s story is one of purpose, passion, and people. From his first Rotary meeting in Asaba, Nigeria, in May 2006, to his upcoming role as District Governor of Rotary International District 7080 in Canada, Uche has charted a path defined by selfless service and a steadfast belief in the power of community.

What began as a simple introduction to Rotary soon became a life-defining journey. Uche transitioned from the Rotary Club of Ota in Nigeria to the Rotary Club of Brampton in Ontario, Canada, where he quickly became a driving force. As a Past President of the Brampton club, he spearheaded initiatives that fostered inclusion and member engagement, such as formalised induction ceremonies and a structured mentorship program for new Rotarians.

His work extended beyond his club. Uche took on leadership roles within District 7080, launching initiatives like the Interact Grant Writing program and playing a key role in Rotary’s expansion across Brampton. His efforts to recruit and welcome 15 new members into the Rotary family further exemplified his commitment to growth and sustainability.

Uche’s contributions have earned him significant recognition, including being named a Major Donor to The Rotary Foundation, and a member of both the Paul Harris Society and the Polio Plus Society. These accolades speak to a deep and consistent dedication to Rotary’s mission of creating lasting change.

Professionally, Uche applies the same drive and vision. As Lead for Investment Attraction from Africa and the Caribbean at the City of Brampton’s Economic Development Office, he plays a vital role in forging international partnerships that benefit the local economy. His academic background in civil engineering, coupled with an MBA and several certifications, equips him to navigate the complex intersection of business, policy, and community development.

Uche’s impact reaches even further into the Nigerian-Canadian community. He is a Director at the Nigeria Immigrant Welcome Centre in Brampton, the first of its kind in Ontario, where he supports newcomers in finding their footing. He also founded the Network of Nigerians in Canada, a platform for connection, empowerment, and advocacy.

Faith and family are at the centre of Uche’s life. An Evangelist in the Anglican Church, he lives with his wife, also a dedicated Rotarian, and their young son, who has already been named a Paul Harris Fellow. Together, they embody the spirit of service across generations.

In addition to his Rotary leadership, Uche is an active member of the Rotary Action Group for Community Economic Development and serves as an Ambassador for WASHRAG (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene Rotary Action Group), reflecting his dedication to tackling some of the world’s most pressing challenges.

On July 1, 2026, Uche will officially begin his term as District Governor, a role that crowns nearly two decades of Rotary involvement. As he steps into this new leadership position, Uche brings with him a global outlook, a grounded heart, and a firm belief in service as a tool for transformation.

His story is not just about the milestones he has reached, but the bridges he has built, between nations, communities, and people. Through Rotary and beyond, Uche Okugo continues to demonstrate that when service meets vision, the impact knows no borders.
