Lami Angela Nnamonu, professor of agro chemistry at the Joseph Sarwuan Tarkaa University Makurdi, Benue State (JOSTUM) has advised that rather than ingest toxic Agrochemical residues on food, people should eat weevils.
The Nigeria’s first professor of agro chemistry made this known during her 81st inaugural lecture titled; ‘From Molecules to Mindset: Trailblazing Agrochemistry and Leading Change’ at Aper Aku Hall of Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University Makurdi recently.
The first female professor of Chemistry in Benue State explained that while most people avoid them, eating insects like weevils is common in some cultures and is a growing practice for sustainable protein sources.
“The African palm weevil, Rhynchophorus Phoenicia, is a species of palm weevil found in Africa. The larvae are considered a delicacy, rich in nutrients, and a significant part of the diet in some tropical areas ,” she emphasized.

The director institute of procurement, environmental and social standard, Lami Nnamonu emphasized that the arena where scholarship is tested, theories are translated into solutions, and knowledge breathes life into communities and the application of knowledge for the common
good with membership of committees is community service but should not be limited with provision of laboratory equipment for use of all.
Nnamonu detailed that IPESS is a World Bank Centre of Excellence under the Sustainable Procurement Environmental and Social Standards Enhancement (SPESSE) project which has been very impactful to the university by enabling free use of internet services by students, staff and even visitors just as they train and retrain staff about relevant fields, they as well ensure proper preservation of farm products for future use.
Earlier, the Vice chancellor of Joseph Sarwuan Tarkaa university Makurdi (JOSTUM), Itodo Nathaniel congratulated the guest lecturer, Lami Nnamonu adding that she has been amongst the grade ‘A’ pillars of the university with eloquent academic experience with high impact on students and upcoming academicians. “Today too, Professor Lami Nnamonu will be impacting knowledge to listeners as she present the lecture on molecules to mindset,” he emphasized.

In a goodwill message, the celebrant husband, Emmanuel Nnamonu, Professor Shaator congratulated the Agro Chemistry professor, stressing that hard work pays just as there is no short cut in life, adding that the lecturer through her biography had never found in any time in life a reason to short cut at any point in pursuit of her academic journey.
They all urged all upcoming academicians to emulate the guest lecturer, adding that in academics, there is no short cut for a society gets doomed in the hands of nonprofessionals who claim professionals in areas they have no knowledge of.
The deputy director, institute of procurement, environmental and social standard and Head of environmental sustainability at Joseph Sarwuan Tarkaa University, Chris Eche congratulated the Agro Chemistry professor, stressing that IPESS has impacted the university so much under their watch.
