In a bid to redefine global travel and spotlight systemic limitations, 26-year-old Nigerian travel content creator, Alma Asinobi is gearing up to break the Guinness World Record for the fastest journey across all seven continents. Scheduled to commence on March 15, 2025, Alma’s ambitious expedition seeks to complete her route in under 70 hours—trimming down the current record of 73 hours set by Sujoy Kumar Mitra and Dr. Ali Irani.

Starting her journey from the icy lands of Antarctica, Alma will traverse North America, South America, Europe, Africa, Asia, and Oceania. More than just a race against the clock, this endeavor represents a profound statement on travel equality. As the youngest and only Black solo record attemptee in this category, Alma is determined to challenge and transform the narrative surrounding passport inequality, a pervasive issue that disproportionately affects travelers from regions like Nigeria.

During a press conference on Thursday, 6March 2025, Alma said “This attempt is not just breaking a record. It’s about showing what’s possible for young African women and anyone with a low-mobility passport. I want to prove that determination can overcome systemic barriers in global travel. My dreams should not be defined by my skin or the color of my passport.”

Timed with Women’s Month celebrations, Alma’s record-breaking attempt is a rallying cry for representation and empowerment. By taking center stage on a global platform, she seeks to dismantle stereotypes and encourage young girls worldwide to dream big. “Every young girl should see that their dreams have no geographic or systemic boundaries,” she emphasised.

Adding another layer to her initiative, Alma has announced a second Guinness World Record attempt ‘to create the most-signed travel memorabilia in history’. This project involves a Nigerian flag that will be signed by supporters from around the globe. The signing event is set for March 23, 2025, and is poised to serve as a symbol of unity, resilience, and the power of international collaboration.

“We don’t take no for an answer in this country. As long as your mind is set on something, you can actually do it. This is about taking Nigeria global,” Alma explained. “We want our flag to symbolize unity, resilience, and the power of collaboration.”

Alma disclosed that there are some rules she has to abide by while attempting to break the record.

She said, “I cannot take any form of private transportation. I have to take public vehicles and public flights. The only exception to this rule is that I can take licensed taxis. But these licensed taxis cannot drive for more than 50 kilometers. I have to take a GPS device and it has to be with me all through the duration of the record.

The record attempt has garnered significant support from the financial technology firm Risevest. The Global Marketing Officer, Eneyi Obi, expressed enthusiasm at the press conference, noting that what resonated most was Alma’s vision of breaking barriers and opening up new possibilities for Africans on the world stage. “What captured our attention wasn’t just the record itself but Alma’s vision of what it represents, breaking barriers and redefining what’s possible for Africans in global spaces.”
