Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Lagos State governor, has described the All Progressives Congress’s (APC) sweeping victory in the July 12 local government elections as a reflection of Lagosians’ trust in the party’s leadership and grassroots development agenda.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the governor congratulated the APC, its leaders, and supporters for the outcome of the elections held across the 57 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) of the state.
“I have received with joy and gratitude the news of the resounding victory of our candidates in the local government elections held across Lagos State on Saturday, July 12, 2025,” Sanwo-Olu said.
“This outcome is a clear affirmation of the trust and confidence that the good people of Lagos have in the APC’s vision, leadership, and unwavering commitment to inclusive development at the grassroots.”
While hailing the electorate for their participation, Sanwo-Olu said the victory belonged to the people of the state. “Indeed, this victory belongs to the people of Lagos. It reflects your belief in our shared goals and your support for continuity, progress, and people-centered governance.”
He commended the elected chairmen and councillors, reminding them that the mandate they received comes with the obligation to serve all residents, not just party loyalists.
“This victory is not an end, but a means to an end—that end being selfless, responsive, and accountable service to the people,” he said. “Your responsibility is to deliver good governance, uplift communities, and promote the welfare of every resident—regardless of political affiliation.”
Sanwo-Olu also urged the new officials to be magnanimous in victory, “reach across all divides, and embrace the spirit of humility, inclusiveness, and sportsmanship.”
To those who lost out in the party primaries, he extended praise for their participation and commitment to the democratic process, encouraging unity within the party.
“I salute your courage and commitment to the democratic process. I encourage you to remain steadfast, and to work harmoniously with the newly elected officials for the betterment of all. In every contest, there must be winners and others. But within the APC, we must always prioritize unity above personal ambition.”
Calling for reconciliation and support, he added, “We are stronger together, and the task of building a Greater Lagos demands our collective effort, wisdom, and collaboration.”
The governor also applauded the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) and security agencies for ensuring a peaceful and credible electoral process.
“I commend the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) for conducting a peaceful and credible election, and I thank our security agencies for ensuring law and order throughout the electoral process,” he said.
Looking ahead, Sanwo-Olu pledged continued partnership between the state government and the incoming local government administrations to ensure equitable development across Lagos.
“As the new local government administrations prepare to assume office, I reaffirm my unwavering commitment to working closely with them to drive meaningful development to all corners of our state. Together, we will ensure that no community is left behind on our journey toward a Greater Lagos,” he said.
