Organisers of ‘RevolutionNow’ protests planned to hold across the country today, say they will continue the protests from Tuesday, August 6.
The protesters arrived at this decision after operatives of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) used tear gas to disperse the protesters who had gathered in some states in early morning of Monday for the ‘RevolutionNow’ protests, made popular by the arrest of Omoyele Sowore, one of the key organisers, by the operatives of Department of State Secret Service (DSS) on Saturday.
In Lagos, the protesters who gathered in Surulere, with some journalists following, were dispersed.
The conveners of the protests, comprising members of a coalition of different civil society organisations, who addressed the press, alleged that the police fired canisters of tear gas at them as they gathered peacefully in Surulere area of the state.
They insisted they would not be persuaded to give up, vowing to converge on the Freedom Park in Ojota area on Tuesday despite facing resistance from the police today.
