Sources at the Presidential Villa told BusinessDay that the meeting, which is currently taking place at the Council Chamber of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, is a precursor to another meeting later today with the Nigeria Governors’ Forum.

President Buhari has also summoned some security experts who are expected to make presentations at the meeting, to provide alternative views to the regular information and briefings he receives from the Service Chiefs.

The meeting is also coming against the backdrop of a recent statement credited to the Shehu of Borno, Abubakar Ibn Umar Elkanemi, that Borno State and indeed the entire country were no longer safe, in the wake of recent attacks on the governor of Borno by militants suspected to be members of Boko Haram.

The security meeting, which is being presided over by the president, also has in attendance President Yemi Osinbajo, Chief of Staff to the President, Ibrahim Gambari, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, and National Security Adviser, Babagana Monguno.

Others are the Service Chiefs led by the Chief of Defence Staff, Gabriel Olonisakin, the Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai, the Chief of Naval Staff, Ibok Ekwe Ibas, and the Chief of Air Staff, Sadique Abubakar.

Also present are the Inspector General of Police, IGP Mohammed Adamu, the Director General of National, Department of State Services, DSS, Yusuf Bichi, the Director General, National Intelligence Agency, NIA, Ahmed Rufa’i, and the Directorate of Military Intelligence.

Some of the Ministers are the Attorney-General of the Federation, AGF and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, the Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, the Minister of Defence, Bashir Magashi, the Minister of Police Affairs, Mohammad Dingyadi and the Minister of State, Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Zubairu Dada.

It was reliably gathered that representatives of Nigeria Governors Forum will be meeting with the President and Service Chiefs later today.
