Federal government on Thursday said it would proscribe the almajiri system, which it said has been a major hindrance to education in the North.

National Security Adviser NSA, Babagana Monguno disclosed this while briefing State House Correspondents after the inaugural meeting of the National Economic Council presided over by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo at the Presidential Villa, Abuja

Monguno who described Population as a very critical element in national development, said the Federal Government would work with the States to enforce the new policy

“Government should not act as a one-legged tripod. You need to deal with the issues of these children. How many countries do you see operating this system?”

The President had earlier on Thursday said “It is indeed a crime for any parent to keep his child out of school for this period.”

Speaking on the question on how the $1 billion approved for security was used, the NSA said only the Military can give an account of how the fund was applied since the money was approved for them to fight the Boko Haram insurgents

Details shortly….
