The Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy (LJLA) has announced the opening of applications for its 2025/2026 Fellowship programme, inviting passionate young Nigerians to apply for a transformative one-year leadership development experience.
Launched by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu in honour of former Governor Lateef Jakande, the fully funded Fellowship aims to groom a new generation of ethical, purpose-driven leaders by immersing them directly in governance and public service.
Successful applicants, aged 25 to 35 with at least two years of professional experience and a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree or HND, will be embedded as Special Assistants within Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) of the Lagos State Government.
There, they will work closely with senior government officials, contributing to policy design, project implementation, and innovation in public service delivery.

“This is about building systems that prioritise service, innovation, and accountability,” Sanwo-Olu said. “The Academy is a long-term investment in developing leaders who govern with integrity and competence.”
The programme includes mentorship, policy research, and civic engagement components such as the Brown Bag Series and Fireside Chats, platforms that expose Fellows to real-world decision-making by industry experts, policymakers, and entrepreneurs. Fellows also develop soft skills through workshops on emotional intelligence, strategic communication, and ethical leadership.
A unique feature of the Fellowship is its capstone project, which requires each Fellow to initiate a community-based intervention, applying their leadership training in a tangible, impactful way. Fellows also embark on local government tours and international policy trips to study global best practices.
According to Ayisat Agbaje-Okunade, executive secretary of LJLA, “Our Fellows don’t just learn leadership—they live it. They are challenged to think critically, act boldly, and serve with integrity.”
Persons with disabilities are strongly encouraged to apply, reflecting the Academy’s inclusive approach to nation-building. Applications are open until May 17, 2025, via www.ljla.academy.
