The Kwara State Police Command has expressed dismay over unfortunate incident that occurred on Thursday, August 21, 2025, at about 09:00hrs around the Ipata market area of Ilorin, the state capital.
Reports indicated that a woman, suspected to be destitute, was sighted wandering within the community but misguided members of the public wrongly accused her of being a kidnapper.
In the process, an irate mob attacked her, inflicting severe injuries. Upon swift mobilization, Police patrol teams raced to the scene, rescued the victim, and rushed her to the General Hospital, Ilorin, for urgent medical attention.
“Sadly, she was later confirmed dead by the attending doctor as a result of the injuries sustained. Her remains have since been deposited at the hospital mortuary, while discreet investigations are ongoing.

“The Kwara State Police Command strongly condemns this act of jungle justice, which undermines the rule of law and endangers innocent lives. Resorting to mob action in addressing security concerns only worsens insecurity and threatens public safety,” it stated.
Adekimi Ojo, commissioner of Police, urged members of the public to remain calm, law-abiding, and to always report suspicious persons or movements to the nearest Police formation.
He also appealed to the people of Kwara to continue partnering the Police in promoting law, order, and justice while rejecting all forms of mob violence.
