The Kwara State Government has assured that it will continue to work closely with FIDA and other relevant stakeholders to ensure the protection of the rights of women, children, and other citizens.
Ibrahim Sulyman, Kwara State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, gave the assurance at the Annual General Meeting(AGM) of the Kwara State Chapter of the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), held in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.
The Attorney General, who spoke through Mansurat Bello Alaya, Deputy Director, Civil Litigation of the Ministry, pledged that the Government would synergise with the stakeholders to ensure that laws and policies are aligned with international best practices and promote the rights and interests of women and children.
Justice Sulyman further explained that the present Administration under the leadership of Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq would continue to provide enabling environment for women, children, and other citizens to actualise their full potentials.
While commending FIDA for its commitment to the promotion of justice, equality, and human rights, the Commissioner reiterated the Government’s unwavering commitment to ensuring free access to justice in the state.
Funke Balogun, the FIDA Nigeria Chairperson, had in her remarks highlighted the organisation’s commitment to protecting, promoting, and defending the rights of women and children across Nigeria.
She informed that since her assumption of office, the organisation had sustained its struggle for women’s rights, with over 10 Training Workshops held on leadership skills and critical areas of FIDA’s mandate.
Seye Thompson of Seye Thompson Attorneys, had in his Keynote address themed, “Reclaiming Digital Spaces: Ending Technology Facilities Gender-Based Violence”, emphasised the need to focus on women facing domestic violence and to consider redress in law.
