The Kwara State House of Assembly has said that out of 67 bills considered, it passed 47 into law, the highest among states assembly in Nigeria.
Ali Ahmad, the speaker of the House disclosed this yesterday at the valedictory session for the 8th legislative, held at the Assembly complex in Ilorin, the state capital.
According to him, 8th Kwara Assembly has proved to be outstanding among its contemporaries in the country in terms of motions and Bills passed.
Ahmad said: “Out of the 47 Bills passed, 14 were sponsored by the members and have become operational laws in the state with impactful Motions.

“We also considered 106 motions out of which 53 reports were generated and approved.”
Speaking on the Autonomy of legislature in the state, Ahmad declared that “It gladdens the heart to note that Kwara prides itself as the first state to pass the law, have it assented to and thereafter implement it.
“Today, we have our house of Assembly Service Commission to develop a highly skilled legislative bureaucracy and sever the umbilical cord of control from the executive arm of government.”
The feat he said could be attributed to their levels of engagements and deliberations on the floor of the House on various issues as well as the quality and importance of Bills enacted to improve socio-economic activities of the state with positive impact on the lives of the citizenry.
He further stated that, “we recorded successes in the reversal of the exorbitant fees of Kwara State Polytechnic by the School Management, enforcing payment of SUBEB/LGA from a tranche of Paris Club Refund, Payment of Subvention to State Owned Tertiary Institutions, accreditation and reaccreditation of courses in State Owned Tertiary Institutions among other things.”
The speaker, however, advised the 9th Assembly to avoid pitfalls of the 8th Assembly, build on their successes and move Kwara State forward.
