The Katsina State Government has reaffirmed its zero-tolerance stance on substandard health education, declaring that only accredited and qualified institutions will be allowed to operate.
Umar Mammada, Special Adviser to the Governor on Health Institutions, revealed this during a press briefing at his office on Tuesday, May 27, 2025.
He explained that the decision was prompted by widespread public concerns over the surge of unaccredited private health training centers operating without proper government approval or meeting required standards.
“Only institutions that meet our standards will continue training healthcare professionals in this state,” said Umar. His comments followed the conclusion of an extensive review by a visitation panel set up on October 25, 2024.

According to Mammada, the panel assessed 31 private health training institutions across the state; only nine met the minimum regulatory requirements. “The remaining 22 failed to meet basic standards and have been ordered to shut down until they fully comply,” he stated.
In response to the findings, a White Paper Committee was established to guide implementation. The state has now officially approved nine institutions to resume operations.
The approved institutions include Bawo College of Health Sciences in Daura, Essam College of Health Sciences in Katsina, Cherish College of Health Sciences in Katsina, Cherish School of Health Science and Technology in Katsina, North West College of Health Sciences and Technology in Katsina, Kudan College of Health Science, College of Health and Environmental Science, Umar Faruk College of Health Science in Daura, Muslims Community College of Health Sciences in Funtua, and College of Health Sciences and Environmental Studies in Funtua.
Mammada stressed that the administration is committed to ensuring high-quality education and protecting public health. “This is about safeguarding lives. We won’t allow unqualified institutions to compromise healthcare standards in Katsina,” he said.
