Kano State and the Government of France have renewed their partnership under the National Water Sector Reform Programme, with a focus on social impact, institutional strengthening, and sustainable water management.
Sanusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa, spokesperson to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, made this disclosure in a statement on Wednesday, in Kano.
Receiving the French Ambassador to Nigeria, Marc Fonbaustier, and his eight-member delegation at Government House, Kano, Governor Yusuf commended France for its consistent support to the state, particularly in improving access to safe and reliable water services.
The visit, according to the statement, reviewed ongoing water-sector interventions and explored new areas of collaboration.
Fonbaustier said the size and expertise of his delegation underscored the high priority France places on Kano and the wider northern region.
He noted that France and Nigeria share a “common destiny,” reaffirming France’s commitment to supporting Kano’s development agenda.
The Ambassador explained that the national reform programme prioritises social impact, governance, capacity development, and sustainability over purely hardware investments.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to delivering accessible, efficient, and socially responsive water services to the people of Kano.
