Dr. Jim Ovia, the founder of Cyberspace Group, led dignitaries, partners, clients, and industry leaders in celebrating the company’s 30th anniversary of innovation, growth, and service excellence in Nigeria’s technology sector.
From its modest beginnings in 1995 as a digital dial-up service provider, Cyberspace has grown into one of Nigeria’s most trusted and award-winning connectivity and ICT solutions companies. Today, it provides enterprise networking, cybersecurity, fintech, and cloud services to banks, government agencies, high-net-worth individuals, and corporate institutions.
Ovia reflected on the company’s journey, praising the resilience and dedication that have sustained Cyberspace through the years. “What began with unassuming beginnings has grown into a leading force in Nigeria’s digital transformation,” he said, commending the partnerships that have supported the Group’s success.
The 30th anniversary was also a moment of recognition, as Cyberspace honoured its long-term partners and clients with awards for their contributions to the company’s history.
Mrs. Kay Ovia, chairman of Cyberspace Group, looked to the future with optimism, declaring; “If Cyberspace has made it this far, it will certainly make it to a hundred.”
The event featured tributes from industry leaders, including Mr. Tony Emoekpere, the national president of the Association of Telecommunications Companies of Nigeria (ATCON), who described Cyberspace’s transformation as nothing short of inspirational, highlighting its evolution from dial-up internet to a diversified provider of cutting-edge digital solutions.
Underscoring the Group’s forward-looking strategy, Cyberspace unveiled two new products at the anniversary celebration: Erdvora, a learning management system designed to support institutions, tutors, and learners with automated teaching and interactive content; and WatchGRID, a scalable and cost-effective surveillance solution tailored for security needs in both private and public sectors.
Mr. Tokoni Igoin, senior special adviser on ICT to the president, praised Jim Ovia’s vision and legacy, recalling his pioneering role in establishing Zenith Bank as one of Africa’s most technologically advanced financial institutions. “Through Cyberspace, he laid the groundwork for enterprise connectivity and infrastructure long before it became what it is today,” Igoin noted.
