Izedon Carbonates, trading as IzeCarb, is expanding its calcium carbonates plant in Lampese, Edo, to 500,000 metric tons capacity to boost local production of the commodity by the first quarter of 2026.
The move, which marks a pivotal step in Nigeria’s industrial growth, will help reduce the country’s dependency on imports of calcium carbonates.
The expansion comes less than ten months after the initial launch of the facility, signifying a major leap towards the company’s goal of becoming Nigeria’s largest producer of calcium carbonates within three years.
Osayi Izedonmwen, chairman and founder, Izedon Carbonates, said that the expansion positions IzeCarb to become the largest local manufacturer of premium calcium carbonate products in Nigeria.
He noted that the move is driven by strategic investments, innovation, and deep market insight.
“The expansion marks a strategic shift in our production capacity,” he said. “But more importantly, it enables us to produce highly customised products that meet the specific needs of industrial customer groups,” he noted.
IzeCarb is Nigeria’s first fully integrated calcium carbonates plant with a federal government license to mine and process high-quality dolomite.
Launched in December 2024, the company produces coated calcium carbonate, superfine calcium carbonate powder, and ultrafine calcium carbonate powder, which are essential raw materials for various industries.
With this phase two expansion, IzeCarb plans to increase its current annual production capacity from 72,000 metric tonnes to 500,000 metric tonnes. This has set the stage for its third-phase target of one million metric tonnes by 2027.
As part of the expansion move, IzeCarb is investing in advanced automated machinery to enhance quality assurance, reflecting its commitment to quality, sustainability, and leadership in the industry.
The company’s approach sets a benchmark for other Nigerian manufacturers, encouraging innovation and industrial growth across the board.
The increased output from the expansion will help reduce prices and ensure a consistent supply of high-quality raw materials for industries such as plastics, paints, and oil and gas drilling fluids.
By producing locally sourced and processed calcium carbonates, IzeCarb is helping to reduce Nigeria’s reliance on imports, conserve foreign exchange, and strengthen the national economy.
This move also aligns with the country’s broader economic diversification strategy, which aims to reduce dependence on oil exports and bolster other industrial sectors.
The premium calcium carbonates manufacturer is also expanding its logistics fleet with compressed natural gas (CNG) trucks, reinforcing its Quarry-to-Customer model while reducing emissions and aligning with global sustainability goals.
As one of the leading employers in Lampese, the company’s growth will create more jobs, foster skill development, and enhance economic growth in Edo State.
Though Izedon Carbonates remains a 100 percent privately owned and funded entity, its rapid expansion and strategic positioning could open the door to future investments and partnerships.
With plans to scale production to one million metric tonnes within three years, the company is also targeting exportation to the West African sub-region.
