Liverpool forward Hugo Ekitike has welcomed the arrival of Alexander Isak at Anfield, insisting the British record signing will push him to develop further.
Ekitike joined the Premier League champions in the summer for £69m and has scored five goals in his first 10 appearances.
But Liverpool strengthened their attack on deadline day with the £125m capture of Isak from Newcastle United.
With manager Arne Slot yet to field both strikers together, questions remain about how they will fit into the same side.
“I think it’s good with players in such a big club,” Ekitike said.
“I can’t see one big club playing with only one striker, so I think it’s good that he’s here. Even for me at my age, I still have a lot of things to improve and learn, so for me it’s good that he’s here.”
On whether he could partner Isak in attack, the Frenchman added: “That’s for the coach to decide. But obviously, I’ve played in two-striker systems and I can do a lot of things. If we have to play together, I can do that.”
Both players scored in Liverpool’s Carabao Cup win over Southampton last week, with Ekitike replacing Isak at half-time before netting the winner.
However, the Frenchman was sent off for removing his shirt in celebration after an earlier booking.
“I think that wasn’t smart,” Ekitike admitted.
