f there is one woman who thrills me whenever I watch her, it is the affable Sola Sobowale. Her acting skills are second to none. We thought we had seen it all when she featured in Wale Adenuga’s Super Story where she played the role of Toyin Tomato. She was simply Amazing.

She went on to do other amazing movies but fresh on my mind, is her role in Wedding Party 1 and 2. Her delivery of her lines, her energetic display of character cannot be over emphasised. She strikes me like that mother who will do everything to make her children happy both on screen and in real life. It feels natural to think you are safe if any family member tries to upset you because you are certain she will defend you to the last.

In Wedding Party, she played the bride’s mother who is excited about her only child getting married and decided to leave no stone unturned to announce to Nigeria’s elite that a new family has joined the 1% richest. She plays the role of ‘Tinuade Coker’, the mother of the bride and in Wedding Party 2, her role was same except that this time, her daughter was pregnant.

Sola is an Actress, Screen Writer, Director and Movie Producer. She started her acting career when she joined the Awada Kerikeri Group under the leadership of Adebayo Salami, where she starred in hit movie ‘Asewo To Re Mecca’.

She is a multiple award winning and well known face in the Nigeria TV industry cutting across the younger and older generation and has played lead roles in both English and Yoruba home movies.

Sola Sobowale as a brand, identified with Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative(s) with the motive of giving back to her community. Sola led the walk among notable personalities to show her support for the visually impaired students of the Federal Nigeria Society for the Blind (FNSB).

She scripted, produced and directed, Ohun Oko Somida, a 2010 Nigerian film that stars Adebayo Salami (Oga Bello).

She also featured in Dangerous Twins, a 2004 Nigerian drama film produced by Tade Ogidan, written and directed by Niji Akanni. She was in Family on Fire produced and directed by Tade Ogidan.

The journey to showbiz started when she opted out of College of Education to follow her dream by going to Ibadan then the hub of entertainment in Nigeria. Initially, enrolled as a Secretary in training at Sight and Sound, Ibadan, Tunji Oyelana, (Sura Di Tailor) who married her elder sister, Kikelomo, got her enrolled in the University of Ibadan’s Department of Music.

Eventually, she chose the thespian art. From rested Village Headmaster, to Lola Fani Kayode’s Mirror In The Sun and a couple of stage productions including Femi Osofisan’s Our Husband Has Gone Mad Again, it was a journey of upward progression.

We all are looking forward to another spectacular delivery in a soon to be released film by the ace filmmaker, Kemi Adetiba called King Of Boys!
