For the opportunity to represent Nigeria at the Africa level, 13 companies founded by students from across the country will compete at the Junior Achievement (AJ) Nigeria National Company of the Year competition in Lagos.

The National Company of the Year (NCOY) Competition scheduled for October 3, 2019, at Terra Kulture, Tiamiyu Savage Street, Victoria Island, Lagos, is JA Nigeria’s flagship event and the culminating point for the implementation of the JA company program and accompanying regional competitions across Nigeria.

Simi Nwogugu, executive director, JA Nigeria, says the goal of the NCOY is to create a signature showcase for Junior Achievement Nigeria (JAN) and the students who benefit from the impact of the JA Company Programme, which is a school-based entrepreneurship education curriculum for senior secondary school students.

Nwogugu says the event with the theme ‘Activating Disruptors’ will feature the use of technology to change operational models used across various industries, adding that it also allows young people to demonstrate their business acumen and spirit of entrepreneurship in a competitive environment, which will engage business, education and policy leaders as well as the media.

According to Nwogugu, “In order for a team to win this award, it is not sufficient just to run a financially successful JA Company or create an exciting product/service; team members must also demonstrate an understanding of how and why the company performed as it did, and balance the business achievements of the team as a whole with each member’s individual personal contribution.

“Judges look for evidence of innovation and application of new ideas in all aspects of company operations.”

The 13 student companies that will battle at the 2019 JA Nigeria NCOY include: Code-Net, a student company from Janet N John College, Lagos; TEMAK, a student company from Dansol High School, Lagos; Green Tech, a student company from Top Field College, Lagos; New Era, a student company from Community Staff Secondary School, Asokoro, Abuja

Others are Best Enterprise Company from Wesley College; T.C Achievers Company from Taidob College, Abeokuta, Ogun State; Rhemaville Academy, Jos, Plateau State; Christ the King Secondary School; CSMT Secondary School, Ebonyi State; Alvana Group of Schools, Imo State; Brookstone Secondary School, Port Harcourt, Rivers State; College of Immaculate Conception, Enugu State and Government Technical College, Uyo, Akwa-Ibom State.
