The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it will conduct supplementary election in six federal constituencies along with the gubernatorial and state House of Assembly election in Lagos State this Saturday.
Election in some constituencies into the Federal House of Representatives seat on February 23 in Lagos State in some constituencies such as: Oshodi/ Isolo, Ibeju/lekki, Ojo, Etiosa, Ajeromi-Ifelodun were declared inconclusive by INEC.
International and independent observers had reported that election in these constituencies was poorly conducted and marred by violence and failure of card readers which left several eligible voters disenfranchised.
However, speaking in an interview with BusinessDay, Wednesday, Femi Akinbiyi, Public Relation Officer (PRO) of INEC in Lagos State, said the commission had finalised modalities for the election to hold alongside the gubernatorial and state House of Assembly election.
He said the commission had corrected security lapses noticed in the February 23 election and was optimistic the election would be peaceful, and free and fair in the five Local Government Areas involved.
Meanwhile INEC has disclosed that lifting of election materials from the central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to local Government Areas across the state has started.
INEC further stated it had equally reconfigured card-readers in the state ahead of Saturday’s election.
