Solomon Arase, acting inspector-general of police (IGP), has ordered water-tight security around media houses nationwide.
Arase, who issued the order in Abuja, in a statement by Emmanuel Ojukwu, acting commissioner of police and force public relations officer, expressed concern over recent attacks on media houses and journalists.
He also said the order is in line with the mandate of the Nigeria police to protect lives and property of the citizenry under the law, acknowledging the valuable roles of the media to the enthronement of democracy in Nigeria.
The IGP further advises citizens to be more vigilant and proactive and to report any suspicious movement or persons to the police promptly for appropriate action.
It would be recalled that a blast from suspected improvised explosives on Monday killed many at Ta’o FM Radio station located in Kuroko town of Adavi Local Government Area of Kogi State.
The radio station broadcasts mostly in Ebira language.
Witnesses said the blast occurred about 7p.m after sporadic gunshots that lasted for about 10 minutes were heard by residents.
