In a bid to empower adolescent girls with knowledge and life skills, the Ilimi Children’s Fund (ICF) in partnership with WRTHY, has trained 50 girls in the FCT on sexual and reproductive health rights and financial literacy.

According to Tovia Muo, ICF programme coordinator, the girls were selected across 10 public schools in Abuja under the ‘Teach Her to Reach Her’ initiative.

The training, which took place recently, was conducted under the ICF’s training, advocacy, research, and mentorship project.

“With many adolescent girls still lacking access to accurate information, mentorship, and safe learning spaces, ICF is calling on development partners, government institutions, media, and donors to help expand this initiative,” Mou said.

“When we invest in girls, we multiply impact. We build stronger families, healthier communities, and a brighter future for all,” she added.

She said the one-day engagement created a safe and engaging learning environment for the girls to explore issues around bodily autonomy, informed decision-making, and economic independence.

Esesua Adeyemi, founder of JustAskSaisy Enterprise, who was a part of the facilitators at the training, stressed the need for self-discovery

“We are raising girls who will not just ask for a seat at the table. They will build their own,” she noted. “Every girl we trained now knows that her voice, her choices, and her future matter.”

On her part, Kelechi Anyikude, who works with WRTHY, noted how education and mentorship play a crucial role in shaping brighter futures for young people.

“I am deeply passionate about empowering young girls and helping them realise their full potential. My hope was to inspire confidence, share knowledge, and promote real opportunities for girls to lead and succeed.”

“I believe that the impact of this programme goes beyond the day. It fosters lasting connections, encourages self-belief, and sparks a movement of informed, capable, and empowered young women,” she said.

The ICF is a non-profit organisation with a mission to bridge the gap in access to education and entrepreneurship.

It also empowers communities through policy advocacy and fight against all forms of gender-based violence.
