Delta State House of Assembly Committee on Health has advocated for the strengthening of health institutions in the state with adequate manpower and equipment to enable Deltans access quality and affordable healthcare.
Chairman of the Committee, Austin Uroye, made the remark when he led members of the Committee on a visit to the State Ministry of Health headquarters in Asaba.
Uroye said the committee was ready to partner the ministry and its parastatals to ensure the implementation of government policies and programmes, noting that the health sector was a key indicator in accessing the performance of any government, stressing that healthcare was a necessity and not a luxury, hence the need for more attention by stakeholders.
He said that there must be adequate funding for the health sector to do well, and made a case for the upgrade of some existing secondary health institutions to model health centers in the three senatorial districts of the state.

The lawmaker said the Committee would not compromise standard in its oversight duties, promising to give necessary assistance to the ministry.
Some members of the Committee, who also spoke, including Pat Ajudua and Charles Oniyere, said the Committee would ensure that the ministry achieved its mandate.
Responding to the state Health Commissioner, Mordi Ononye, commended the Committee for the visit saying that the Okowa administration had achieved several feats in the health sector, pledging partnership with the Committee.
