Global Rights has formally disowned a publication by Authority Newspaper alleging misconduct against Musikilu Mojeed, the Nigeria President of the International Press Institute (IPI), describing the report as fabricated, malicious and entirely false.
A statement issued last week Friday, which was signed by Olubunmi Aweda, Country Manager, Global Rights, said “the article, dated December 27, 2025, was falsely attributed to the Organisation and its Executive Director, Abiodun Baiyewu”.

It stressed that neither the Organisation nor its Leadership authored, approved or endorsed the statement in question.
The Organisation stated that at no time did it engage with the publisher of the article, provide comments or participate in any briefing related to the issues referenced in the publication.
Global Rights said it maintains long standing professional relationships across the media and civil society space, including with the leadership of IPI Nigeria, and described attempts to link it to the controversy as misleading and calculated.
The Organisation further clarified that all its official statements are released only through verified communication channels, urging the public and media practitioners to disregard any document not originating from those platforms.
Global Rights demanded an immediate retraction of the publication, a public apology and the removal of all references to the Organisation and its Executive Director from the offending report.
It also stated that it had begun formal documentation of the matter and is consulting legal advisers, warning that those responsible will be held accountable under the law, citing provisions of the Nigerian Criminal Code on defamatory publications.

The Organisation advised members of the public to completely disregard the publication and urged media organisations to verify information before dissemination, refrain from amplifying falsehoods and rely solely on its official platforms for accurate communication.
