Sim Fubara, the governor of Rivers State says everything will be fine. He has thus asked the people of the state to remain calm.
This is as the speaker, Martin Amaewhule, who is the arrowhead of the war against Fubara says the impeachment process was in progress and that it has not been withdrawn as widely rumoured in the state.
Gov Fubara made the call during a church service held to mark the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day, assuring residents that everything would be fine.
The governor explained that his decision to remain silent in the face of distractions was deliberate, noting that he draws strength from his faith in God.
Recalling his remarks at the New Year banquet held at Government House, the governor said that “dogs bark when they do not understand.”

He made the comments briefly before inviting his deputy, Ngozi Odu, a professor, whom he had earlier assigned to read the first lesson at the service, to address the congregation.
In her remarks, the deputy governor, who thanked attendees for their presence at the church service, urged everyone to maintain good conduct, in line with the admonition of Blessing Eyinda, an archbishop and dean of the Anglican Communion, who stressed during his sermon that every action would be remembered at one time or another.
She also appealed to the people to continue upholding the administration in prayer, describing such support as the pillar sustaining the government.
Fubara appears unduly silent, sending most of his supporters to the plane of discomfort. Many have urged him to fight back.
His silence seems to embolden the speaker who has said the process was on course.
The speaker denied reports suggesting that it had withdrawn the impeachment notice it served on Fubara and Odu. They also denied rumours that the Assembly members even went ahead to apologise to President Bola Tinubu over the incident.
Enemi Alabo George, the House Committee chairman on Information, Petitions and Complaints, in a letter tagged, ‘Progress Report on the Impeachment against His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, Governor Rivers State and Her Excellency Prof. Ngozi Nma Odu,’ dated January 9, 2026, denied the rumour.
He said, “The Rivers State House of Assembly is pleased to inform the good people of Rivers State that the impeachment process commenced by the House on Thursday 8th January 2026 is fully on course in line with relevant provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended).
“The two notices of allegations of gross misconduct brought pursuant to Section 188 of the Constitution against the Governor and Deputy have been forwarded to them by the Speaker of the House while we await their responses.”
