In a bold stride towards bridging Nigeria’s digital divide, Agunbiade Babatunde Foundation (ADABA) has successfully trained about 100 industrial training (IT) students across various organisations within the Alimosho Federal Constituency in digital and technology-based skills.
The one-day impactful programme on the theme: ‘The Impact of ICT on Mass Media Performance’, was aimed at bridging the gap between classroom learning and the rapidly evolving digital landscape.
Held at Maddox Guest House Hall, Ipaja, Lagos, the participants were equipped with practical media and ICT knowledge essential for thriving in today’s technology-driven world.
In his opening remarks, the founder of Agunbiade Babatunde Foundation emphasized the global shift toward advanced technology and the need to prepare young people for emerging digital opportunities.
“We are now in an advanced tech world, and it is important to understand the growing impact of technology on our youths. The old saying, ‘as you stand is how you appear in the picture,’ no longer applies. Technology can now transform images in countless ways. This workshop is about giving you the tools to shape your own future,” he stated.
According to him, the theme highlighted the foundation’s dedication to empowering young people with relevant ICT-based skills. The workshop specifically targeted IT students undertaking their industrial attachments within the Alimosho axis.
Participants engaged in hands-on learning on ICT tools for improved media performance, ethical digital practices, and innovative content creation-skills essential for success in today’s digital-first professional environment.
The foundation also reaffirmed its dedication to promoting education, digital literacy, and skill acquisition as key drivers of youth empowerment and sustainable community development across Alimosho and beyond.
Bisi Yusuf, an All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, praised the foundation for its commitment to digital empowerment.
Yusuf, who is Alimosho Apex Leader and director general, Grassroots Movement for Tinubu, while addressing the participants said, “I commend Hon. Agunbiade Babatunde and his foundation for this timely and impactful programme on the role of ICT in modern media. In today’s fast-paced world, this knowledge is a valuable asset, not just to you as individuals, but to our society. I encourage you all to apply what you’ve learned and contribute positively to our community.”
He pledged stronger support for future editions, assuring that the next edition would be “bigger, better, and open to more students.”
Jimoh Akinola, former vice chairman, Ayobo-Ipaja LCDA, joined the apex leader in endorsing the youth-focused initiative.
Remi Feyisipo, a senior journalist with BusinessDay Newspapers, urged participants to use the ICT to project the country positively as well as other negative social vices presently plaguing the nation.
According to him, the knowledge acquired here, especially on ICT should be used in various mediums to fight drug abuse among youths, prostitution, promote girl-child education, which is crucial for societal development.
“A lot of our youths are involved in drugs and if unchecked, could cripple the nation’s future workforce, security, and productivity”.
The event featured distinguished professionals, including: Oladipo Aiyenitaju, guest speaker and ISTQB Certified QA automation engineer, David Aruna, MD, Bright Impression, Igbekele Oluwafemi, CEO, Fame 104.5 FM and Remi Feyisipo, journalist, BusinessDay Newspaper.
