Former Transition Committee Chairmen (TCC), known as ‘Mayors,’ appointed by Governor Alex Otti at the beginning of his administration in 2023 to administer the 17 LGAs, have inaugurated a political support group known as ‘Association of Premier Mayors of Abia State.’
The aim of the group is to sustain support for the governor to continue to deliver on his promises to the people, as well as engage in grassroots mobilisation for the governor’s second-term bid.
The inaugural gathering took place on Sunday at Agbaragwu in Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area, with all former mayors in attendance.
Elelenta Nwabuisi Elele, chairman of the group and former mayor of Isiala Ngwa South LGA, in an interview shortly after the meeting, said that the Association was created to consolidate unity among the appointees and to mobilise organised grassroots support ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

Elele maintained that Governor Otti had demonstrated what he described as “unprecedented administrative performance,” insisting that the governor’s achievements have surpassed those of his predecessors in the State.
According to him, the Association is convinced that Governor Otti deserves a second term in office to sustain what they called “a transformational governance agenda” currently underway across Abia.
The former mayor announced plans to embark on statewide visitations and engagements to build public support for the governor’s re-election bid.
He said, “We are initiating the Association of Premier Mayors of Abia State to sustain our support to Governor Alex Otti most performing Governor of Abia State.”
He said that Governor Otti chose specific people at the beginning of his Administration, because of their credibility, level of education and achievements in life, to lay the foundation of Abia State Local Governments.
“So, we did our part and the new Mayors are in, but we still have a stake in Abia state, because this is our state and the governor is ours. So, we are getting together to put ourselves in order so that we can keep supporting our principal-Governor Otti.

“This association will continue from now till God decides when it will be dissolved. We will stay to help Governor Otti win a second term. That’s already written, we will just put a stamp on it, as the people he chose to lay the foundation.
“This Association will work with the people to make sure that the benefit of the government that is beginning to accrue gets to our people, even in the local wards; that’s our goal.
On the opposition that are discrediting the governor, Elele urged Abians not to worry about them, saying, “Don’t worry about the little people pecking, when the hawk is flying, there’s always little birds that peck, but let me say this, Otti is like a whole leg of cow. All the people pecking are like ants; there is nothing an ant can do to a leg of a cow. You can leave a leg of a cow outside, and ants can gather and eat, but the next morning, the leg of the cow is still there. We are the support for that leg,” he said.
