Firm rolls out digital platform to streamline pharmacy operations, boost drug access
Zamda Health has introduced a new digital system designed to support pharmacy operations and expand access to genuine medicines in Nigeria.
The health technology company unveiled its Point of Sale (POS) platform in Lagos, describing it as the backbone of a wider digital ecosystem aimed at addressing persistent gaps in drug availability and patient safety.
The Zamda POS is a cloud-based tool that allows pharmacies to digitise their operations. The system enables inventory upload and synchronisation both offline and online. It also issues expiry alerts, provides real-time sales tracking, supports multi-branch coordination, manages employee activity, and generates sales analytics.
The platform offers further functions such as prescription verification, discount promotions, and AI-driven restocking support.
Speaking at the launch, co-founder Sunday Emmanuel explained that the system was developed to address some of the common difficulties faced by community pharmacists, including poor inventory management and the circulation of counterfeit drugs.
“Pharmacists often struggle with stock tracking and patients sometimes cannot find the medicines they need. With Zamda POS, pharmacies can operate more efficiently, and patients can have peace of mind knowing drugs are available and genuine,” Emmanuel said.
The company said the POS system is one part of a three-pronged digital health ecosystem. The second element is the Zamda Mobile App, which allows patients to search and order prescription and over-the-counter medicines from multiple pharmacies. Through the app, users can compare prices, request home delivery or pick up in-store, and access services including online consultations, allergy detection, and prescription refills.
The third product is Zamda AI, which provides instant responses to medical questions, drug information, and safety alerts. All medicines uploaded on the platform are checked against the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) database to confirm authenticity. Access to controlled drugs requires prescriptions verified by licensed doctors.
Zamda Health has started operations in Lagos and Enugu, with plans to extend into rural communities where access to pharmacies is limited. Emmanuel said the organisation’s goal is to bridge Nigeria’s medicine access gap.
“We want to reach villages where people have the money to buy drugs but cannot find them nearby. Zamda Health will bridge that gap,” he said.
Pharmacies that subscribe to the POS pay an annual fee starting from ₦12,000. Monthly packages range between ₦1,500 and ₦3,500. Subscribers also receive onboarding support and staff training.
By combining POS, patient-facing applications, and AI tools, Zamda Health aims to provide a connected solution that enhances pharmacy operations while improving the availability and safety of medicines.
With its entry into the market, the company positions itself among the emerging players in Nigeria’s digital health space, where technology is increasingly being applied to address challenges in healthcare delivery and access.
