Federal Government has on Wednesday identified inadequate capacity building for policy drivers in the education sector as one of the constraints which may have contributed to the failure on the national efforts in revamping the education sector,despite trillions of naira invested in the sector.
Adamu Adamu,the Minister of Education made the disclosure in Abuja at the ongoing workshop programme organised for the deputy and Assistant directors in the Federal Ministry of Education to build their capacity on leadership and strategic Management to facilitate effective implementation of the Education Ministry’s strategic Plan of 2016 -2019.
”Education system is not static and therefore,the sector planners and managers need to acquire skills to update their function more effectively in line with the agenda of change”Adamu who was represented by Mohammed Umar the director of human resources at the Minstry said.
The workshop which is being organised by the Federal Ministry of education in collaboration with the National Institute for Educational Planning and Adminstration,(NIEPA) is expected to strengthen capacity of education administrators in the country.
The Minister,in this regard noted at the event that the participants are expected to have a full grip of strategic management,techniques,analysis and implications for education for change plan,e-governance,leadership styles,leadership and communication,leadership and decision making process,leadership and conflict management.
Nigeria,it would be noted is one of the 160 countries that converged in the World Education Forum in Incheon,Republic of Korea in May 2015 with the single goal of how to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and lifelong learning for all by 2030.
The Incheon declaration for Education 2030 has been instrumental to shaping the Sustainable Development Goal,(SDG 4) on Education with a focus to ensuring Inclusive and equitable qaulity education and promoting lifelong learnig opportunities for all.
Earlier in her remarks,the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry Folasade Yemi Esan said,”The 21st Centure Deputy an Assistant directors who are critical in formulating and implementing education policies should be such that acquire relevant skills to keep abreast of global education best practices and development.
They should be able to initiate ideas to achieve the goals of education,apply lateral thinking to different situations,challenge current process,practices and strategies ,and unearth alternative approaches,solutions or methods in education delivery”the Permanent Secretary noted.
