…as University marks 15th convocation
The Federal Government, through the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), has inaugurated four major infrastructure projects valued at ₦3.8 billion at Osun State University, Osogbo.
The projects, inaugurated by Aminu Masari, a former House of Representatives Speaker and Chairman of TETFund’s Board of Trustees, include the University’s new Senate Building, the Faculty of Computing and Information Science, a 500-Capacity Auditorium, and a twin lecture theatre.
The inauguration formed part of activities marking the institution’s 15th Convocation ceremony.
Speaking at the ceremony, Masari said the inauguration of the projects indicated the TETFund’s progress and success at their vision of making institutions globally relevant and competitive in this age of pronounced digital advancement and the increasing relevance and impact of Artificial intelligence (AI).
The Chairman of TETFund’s Board of Trustees, also stated that the Fund, through its interventions, had allocated a total of N14,107,175,623.11, out of which a total of N10,554,366,446.14 had been accessed, leaving a balance of N3,552,809,176.97, most of which were already committed.
“You may wish to know also that from the start of Tetfund interventions to this university shortly after its enlistment in 2006, the Fund has allocated a total of N14,107,175,623.11, out of which a total of N10,554,366,446.14 have been accessed, leaving a balance of N3,552,809,176.97, most of which are already committed.
“I am pleased to observe that Osun State University is asserting itself in the South-west region of the country and its reputation for imparting relevant knowledge is rising.
“I urge the university administration to maintain focus in this regard and ensure that no stone is left unturned in becoming a strong global player, where Nigerians and foreigners will find the institution a citadel to select as their University choice,” he said.
Also speaking, Clement Adebooye, Professor and Vice-Chancellor of the University, commended TETFund for the trust reposed in the University, assuring that the University would continue to ensure proper utilisation of their funds.
Adebooye said the iconic Senate building comprises a 500-capacity relaxation centre, 58 offices and one large store on the ground floor; 32 offices, two conference rooms, 250 capacity pavilion senate chamber on the first floor; and 150 capacity Council Chamber, 12 executive offices, two executive conference rooms on the second floor and an attic that comprises all offices in the Chancellor, including the Vice-Chancellor Office and Council Office, adding that the building comes with all associated external works, full furnishing, two elevators, and electricity generating plant.
Sonny Echono, Executive Secretary of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), who delivered the 15th Convocation lecture of the University entitled, “Digital transformation in higher education: Building skills in graduates for global competitiveness”, said that the success of Nigeria’s higher education system in this digital age would depend on its ability to produce graduates who are innovation-driven, locally relevant and globally competitive.
