Yusuf Gwadah, Chancellor of Bowen University, Iwo, Osun State, has declared that the Institution stands as proof that faith-based education can produce globally competitive scholars and researchers.
Speaking at the 20th Convocation Ceremony of the university, Gwadah said Bowen has continued to record outstanding achievements in research, scholarship.and community impact.
”Bowen stands as a testimony that faith-based education can indeed produce men and women who are intellectual sound, spiritually grounded and socially responsible”, he said.
He disclosed that the institution was listed among the Top 500 scholarly outputs in Nigeria by SCOPUS/SCiVal between 2021 and 2025, with several of its faculty members ranking among the nation’s top researchers and that the institution’s postgraduate enrolment increased by 758.5% between the 2021/2022 and 2024/2025 academic sessions, saying” we are pleased to note the significant growth in our postgraduate programs, which have received full approval from the National Universities Commission (NUC).
Addressing the graduating students, the Vicennial Class of 2025, Gwadah charged them to uphold integrity, compassion, and godliness as they step into a new phase of life. He urged them to be ambassadors of Christ and Bowen, saying, “True success is not measured by possessions but by purpose; not by accolades, but by the impact you make on others.”
Also speaking, Joan Ayo, Pro-Chancellor of the Institution, tasked the graduating students to discover their areas of comparative advantage and interest.
She said, “Look inward to see your area of strength, untapped talent or hidden initiative, think of how this talent or initiative can be turned to productivity. Think something, do something, do not live an idle life. Be resourceful, work hard, be diligent, be honest and truthful in your dealings, so that you can reflect integrity. Above all, fear God, which is the beginning of wisdom.”
Also, Jonathan Babalola, Professor and Vice Chancellor of the Institution, disclosed that 13 Bowen academics were listed among Nigeria’s top 500 authors in Nigeria from 2021 to 2025 by SCOPUS/SCiVal, while seven were recognised among the World Top 2% Scientists by Stanford University and Elsevier in 2025.
Babalola also announced that 68 undergraduates were selected for the 2025 United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI) and Millennium Campus Network (MCN) Fellowship, while three Mechatronics students secured the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society Diversity , Equity and Inclusion Grant worth $3,300 each for the international conference.
Oba Abdulrosheed Adewale Akanbi, the Oluwo of Iwo, described Bowen University as one of the best in Nigeria and a pride to Iwo land and Osun State, calling on the Federal Government to attract industries to Nigeria to promote industrialisation and create employment for graduates.
As part of the 20th Convocation Ceremonies, the university presented awards and prizes to its best graduating students. The overall best graduating student, Lotechukwu Ikpo (Economics, CGPA: 5.00), received a cash prize of ₦1 million, a fully funded master’s scholarship, and a monthly salary offer without immediate work in recognition of her exceptional academic performance.
Other top awardees included Praise Jesutofunmi Adika (Accounting, CGPA: 4.99), who received ₦700,000, and Ebunoluwa Chidera Alao (History and International Studies, CGPA: 4.98), who received ₦500,000.
