Seppro Energy, a US based firm, in partnership with the Akwa Ibom State Gov¬ernment has concluded plans to establish a fertil¬iser plant in the state at a cost of $100 million.
The partnership would result in reducing the amount of gas flared in the state by turning un¬used gas into urea, which is used for the manufacture of fertiliser for use by farmers in the state.
Rowaye Jubril of Seppro En¬ergy announced this in Uyo, Akwa Ibom capital, after visiting Governor Godswill Akpabio; add¬ing that the first phase of the plant would produce 200 metric tons of fertiliser per day; and 6,000 metric tons a month.
He said more than 100 youths would be offered employment when the project is completed; while over 200 unskilled work¬ers would be engaged by the company.
The company, it was gathered would collaborate with Universal Energy, an indigenous oil explo¬ration firm owned by the state government in the establishment of the plant.
According to Aniefiok Uwau¬dofia, a spokesman for Universal Energy, the two companies are committed to establishing the plant “to reap the economic ben¬efits of converting stranded gas resources from the Stubb Creek to useful products like urea, conden¬sate and liquefied petroleum gas.”
In his remarks, Governor Ak¬pabio commended Septa Energy, co-owners of Universal Energy on the recent completion of the gas processing plant in Esit Eket Local Government Area of the state.
In his response, Ufot Ebong, the chief operating officer of Uni¬versal Energy, said, the company has completed a gas pipeline to evacuate gas to a processing plant at Uquo in Esit Eket Local Govern¬ment Area of the state; adding the company would continue to seek partnerships with investors that would be “innovative in creating value for the rich hydrocarbon resources available in the state.”
