Onnoghen missing as CCT proceedings begin

The case against the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) has commenced with no presence of CJN Walter Onnoghen at the CCT. All three CCT members seated including Chairman, Danladi Umar.

The members of the Danladi Umar-led three-man tribunal arrived in the courtroom at exactly 10am.

According to details of the court proceeding monitored by an insider in the court room, prosecution kicks against the case starting as the accused, Justice Walter Onnoghen is not present to plead guilty or not guilty.

Wole Olanipekun standing in for the accused, Justice Walter Onnoghen says the CCT does not have jurisdiction to hear the case.

Wole Olanipekun standing in for Justice Walter Onnoghen states that the procedure for service was not adhered to based on the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA). Says Onnoghen was not personally served and he ought to be served.

CCT Chair Danladi Umar asks Olanipekun if he is saying that the CJN was not aware of the case as widely publicized but the defence counsel insists that the law must be followed and not hearsay.
