Ondo House impeaches deputy governor Ali Olanusi

The Ondo State House of Assembly on Monday morning impeached its deputy governor, Ali Olanusi.

​Twenty-two​ of the 26 members of the Assembly supported the impeachment of Olanusi, who recently moved to the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The motion for his impeachment was moved by Ifedayo Akinsoyinu​ from Ondo West II and majority leader, while Olatunji Dauro from Owo II‎ seconded the motion.

Jumoke Akindele, the speaker, subsequently ruled that all government property in the custody of the deputy governor be retrieved by the permanent secretary of the Deputy Governor’s Office.

The Assembly had last Tuesday served an impeachment notice on Olanusi.

The Assembly, in the notices signed by 20 of its 26 members, accused the deputy governor of alleged gross misconduct.

Some of the allegations levelled against him include financial misappropriation, absenteeism from official duties and causing disaffection in the state cabinet.

Meanwhile, the Ondo State government has announced the appointment of the state commissioner for agriculture, Lasisi Oluboyo, as the new deputy governor. Details…
