Working in an Information Technology (IT) firm in Nigeria looks the way to go, as professionals working in that sector in Nigeria have been ranked one of the best paid in the Africa Fintech space in 2017.
This could mean more influx of foreign skill professionals, as the skill gap in the IT space in Nigeria is ranked behind other African peers put at 65 percent.
This is contained in a report published by Digital Frontiers Institute titled ‘FinTech Talent Africa Compensation Report and FinTech Talent Africa Leadership and Employee Engagement Report for 2017.’
Nigeria in the report only fell behind Kenya in Africa average base salary, but was far above other African countries.
Although the report findings showed that average skilled Nigerian earnings is one of the lowest in Africa, earning just N11,000 on average, working at a senior management and professional levels afford you one of the highest paid remuneration in Africa from N204,000 to N572,000.
However, the report also showed that in terms of talent resources Nigeria drops to third with a 65 percent skill gap in the IT sector.
“This human capacity gap is leading to escalating human capital costs and hiring delays, stalling business progress within the Fintech industry there is far too little fintech talent in Africa, and companies in the industry are feeling the pinch,” Gavin Krugel, CEO, Digital Frontiers Institute, said.
“The reports are the first of their kind and are aimed at helping business leaders and entrepreneurs across Africa’s competitive financial technology industry who are struggling to attract and retain enough talent to meet current demands,” Krugel said.
The findings are based on insights from 400 leaders, managers and professionals across 69 organisations and 10 sub-Saharan African countries.
The reports also show that women are underrepresented at Fintech companies across Africa, both in leadership and operational roles.
The reports surveyed more than 400 professionals, only 12.5 percent were women, and on average, women made up 39 percent of teams in Fintech.
