The Senate on Tuesday unveiled the partial list of ministerial nominees sent by President Muhammadu Buhari.
In a letter just read by Senate President, Bukola Saraki, Buhari revealed that “the list of the remaining nominees will follow shortly”.
The President had sent the list of his cabinet on September 30 to the number three citizen.
However, portfolios of the would-be ministers was not attached to their names.
Former National Chairman of Labour Party (LP), Dan Nwanyanwu believes it would have been better to attach portfolios of ministers.
This, he argued, would “narrow down the screening of each nominees”.
The list includes former governors of Lagos State, Babatunde Fashola (Lagos); his counterpart from Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi (Rivers) and that of Ekiti State, Kayode Fayemi (Ekiti); National Publicity Secretary of All progressives Congress (APC), Lai Mohammed (Kwara); former PDP National Chairman, Audu Ogbeh (Benue); Group Managing Director of the
NNPC, Emmanuel Ibe Kachikwu (Delta).
Others are: Senator Chris Ngige (Anambra); Senator Hadi Sirika (Katsina); Abubakar Malami (SAN) (Kebbi); Abdurahman Bello Dambazau (rtd) (Kano), Aisha AlHassan (Taraba); Barrister Adebayo Shittu (Oyo); Barrister Solomon Dalong (Plateau); Amina Ibrahim (Kaduna); Osagie Ehanire (Edo); Sulaiman Adamu (Jigawa); Kemi Adeosun (Ogun), Ogbonnaya Onu (Ebonyi); Ahmed Ibeto (Niger); Ibrahim Jibril and Udoma Udo-Udoma (Akwa-Ibom).
Senate Minority Leader, Godswill Akpabio (PDP, Akwa-Ibom North West) raised a Point of Order to urge the President to release the remaining list, saying since it took the President four months to announce the partial list, it may take a longer period for the complete to be out.
In his ruling, Saraki said the President should be given the benefit of doubt, pointing out that since he fulfilled his promise of sending the list by September, he would also send the remaining list ‘shortly’ as promised.
The Senate President, also confirmed that screening of the nominees will commence next week Tuesday, October 13, 2015.
