Sarah Alade, the acting governor of CBN, on Tuesday expressed concern over low participation of stakeholders in the effective implementation of the cashless policy.

Alade expressed the concern in a key note address at the cashless policy sensitisation in Yola.

She said that while the CBN was playing a leading role in its development and implementation, there was also need for effective cooperation among stakeholders for it to succeed.

“Operators, merchants, the government, among others, are extremely important in the implementation of the cashless policy.

“The policy, if properly supported and implemented will ensure the efficiency of Nigeria’s payment system.

“It will contribute to the country’s economic and social development through increased financial resources,” Alade said.

Alade, who was represented by Yahya Lawal, the Yola branch controller of the bank, said the success of the policy depended on the cooperation of all.

Alade said that since the introduction of the policy in 2010, the apex bank had embarked on the repositioning of the nation’s financial system.
