Enugu State Government has paid counter fund of N12.5million to ensure adequate and proper arrangements are put in place for the forthcoming measles vaccination campaign in the state.
The commissioner for health Fintan Ekochin who stated this said that UNICEF, WHO and other partners also contributed to make sure the campaign become a big success.
According to him Enugu State primary Healthcare development agency has 714 teams to carry out the operations in the 291 wards in the state to capture all the eligible persons.
The exercise he said would start from Tuesday 13th to Sunday 25th March 2018 in two phases, first phase which will be Enugu North starts from 13th and ends on 18th while the phase two would be Enugu south which would also start from 20th to 25th March and that all the LGAs including the state government would Flagg the campaign off on 12th March.
Ekochin said the ministry is targeting about 536,486 thousands eligible children under the ages of 9 months to 5 years and would like to make sure that above 95 percent success is achieved, “this because we are looking at eradication of measles” he said.
He said that the vaccines are safe and free and that anti-paratives would be given any child who have fever as trained health workers have already been posted to the vaccination post to administer the vaccines and answer questions accordingly.
The commissioner called on the health workers in the 17 local government areas to to be more serious wit routine immunization.
He said that routine immunization is a very important aspects of primary Healthcare development agency and that if it is not done properly it would cause a lots of death, particularly among those children within the ages of 0 to 5 years.
