Education in the Niger Delta is said to have touched the heart of the old boys of the Government College Ughelli Old Boys’ Association (GCUOBA), Lagos Branch, which has officially announced the construction of an ultra-modern secretariat.
This is said to be aimed at strengthening its administrative capacity, enhancing alumni engagement, and deepening its long-standing contributions to educational development in the country.
As part of activities to mobilise support for the project, members and friends of the Association would converge on Sunday, December 14, 2025, at the Grand Ballroom of Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos, for the 2025 Annual Luncheon.
The high-profile gathering would celebrate alumni unity, raise funds for the development, and support the growth of its alma mater, Government College Ughelli (GCU).
The Secretariat, when completed, would serve as the permanent national headquarters of the Association.
It is also designed to support structured planning and implementation of strategic interventions for GCU.
In addition, the facility would host conferences, leadership and professional development programmes, reunions, and youth empowerment initiatives.

The project also incorporates income-generating features intended to ensure sustainable funding for future educational projects.
Speaking on the initiative, Charles Uwensuyi-Edosmwan, SAN, President of GCUOBA, Lagos Branch, described the Secretariat as a legacy investment that reflects the Association’s commitment to preserving the heritage of Government College Ughelli
On his part, Okosubide Mozimo, the VP and chairman of the GCUOBA Lagos branch luncheon organizing committee, noted that the ₦2 Billion Secretariat project would not merely be a physical structure but a symbol of unity, continuity, and their renewed pledge to give back to the institution that shaped them.
Gov Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State is scheduled to be the host while Atedo Peterside would serve as Guest of Honour.
The event will be chaired by former governor Donald Duke of Cross River State while the keynote address would be delivered by Sonny Iroche, an accomplished finance and infrastructure policy expert.
