The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has confirmed the arrest of Martins Otse, popularly know as VeryDarkMan, following a string of petitions alleging his involvement in various financial crimes.
In a statement released by Dele Oyewale, Head of Media and Publicity, the Commission revealed that Otse was invited multiple times to respond to the allegations but failed to honour the invitations.
The EFCC said the petitions received contain “grave allegations of financial malfeasance,” which warranted serious attention and could not be ignored.
“Despite repeated invitations sent to his known addresses and communication channels, Otse refused to present himself to the Commission,” the EFCC stated, adding that his eventual arrest was in line with due legal procedures.
The Commission also addressed Otse’s public criticisms and verbal attacks on the EFCC, describing them as “unguarded” and “condemnable.”

However, it clarified that the arrest was not a reaction to those comments.
According to the EFCC, any issues surrounding such conduct will be handled by the appropriate law enforcement bodies.
“Otse is currently in lawful custody after the Commission obtained a valid remand order”, the statement reads.
EFCC disclosed that administrative bail has been offered to him and he will be released once all conditions are met.
In its statement, the Commission acknowledged the widespread public interest in its operations and welcomed the reactions of Nigerians.
Nonetheless, it cautioned against the continued spread of unfounded insinuations about its motives.
“The EFCC should be allowed to do its job without fear or favour,” EFCC said, assuring the public that charges will be filed once investigations are concluded.
The Commission reiterated its commitment to due process and transparency in its ongoing efforts to combat economic and financial crimes in Nigeria.
