Examination failure is a challenge many students and parents know too well. There are many reasons that can be blamed for the incessant examination failures students experience including approach to study, attention to details, peer relationships, bad teachers, not asking questions and so on.

For many parents, it may become a source of embarrassment and disappointment especially haven invested so much to provide quality education. In some cases it is a scar a child could carry through life. However, Tutor Doctor says approach to teaching and use of technology could provide lasting solutions to examination failures.

Tutor Doctor is a global in-home tutoring service that helps students of all ages strengthen their building blocks and fill academic gaps. Students get help on tackling difficult homework to the extent where they are able to do it themselves.

Tutor Doctor, according to Tim Morris, the country manager, Middle East, Africa and Europe, is a complimentary education service that relies on communication and relationship between teachers and the students. In that respect, the quality of the tutors are critical to the service the company provides.

“At Tutor Doctor, we understand that there are two components of academic success, academic knowledge and academic discipline. You as tutors will not only help with their academic knowledge, providing a better understanding of their subject but through the academic game plan we are able to support and develop their academic discipline,” Morris said.

Tutor recruitment is very tedious, said Morris during the launch of the franchise in Lagos Nigeria last week.

Being a premium service, the tutors have to undergo several rigorous tests, especially in communication and building relationship.

Most children, Morris observed, may not really be as difficult in learning as they are portrayed.

“It could be the way the tutor looks or is dressed that could help the student learn better,” he said.

Once the tutor is recruited and matched appropriately to a particular student, part of the support TutorDoctor promises families it deals with include advise and guide to parents initially with an in-home consultation, and then throughout their enrolment. Parents are allowed to choose the period the tutorials take place. The parents get feedback on the progress made on the tutoring.

To ensure parents full their role in the learning process; they are included as one of the four important members of the Tutor Doctor team.

“It is important that we have the engagement of both the parents and student. The parents are engaged because they are using our services. The student is engaged because they are like the tutor and want the help. The tutor is engaged to bring knowledge and engagement to the student. And we also work with the teacher as a available to make sure that we are aligned with the students curriculum and are able to help address the concerns that have been seen in the classroom,” Morris said.

In a case where a tutor is not available, Tutor Doctor is capable of carrying out tutorials with technology.
