Season of giving back sees EY support Orphanage homes in Lagos

As part of it contribution to impact on the lives of less privilege persons and communities within its area of operation, Ernst and Young Nigeria, (EY), have donated food stuff and materials to an orphanage home and children development centre in Lagos.

Henry Egbiki, managing partner of Ernst and Young, said the gesture which is an annual event goes beyond the quest for profitability as the company sees it as a higher calling of their existence to build a better working world.

Egbiki who was represented by Tayo Babatunde, head, Assurance, Financial Service Industry, West Africa observe as a company represented in 170 countries EY has been around in this country for well over 50 years and we pull together well over 450 professional accountants.

He observes that it is a thing of joy and shows the company identify with the community. “We believe we must plough back to the community because it is no use taking from the community without ploughing back. So when you take and you plough back it makes a better working world.”

Babatunde said that beyond the charity day, earlier in the year, staff of the company in their determination to improve the quality of education in the state volunteered to devote 40 hours of teaching every week in selected schools.

The company visited Arrow of God Orphanage, Ajah where it donated food stuff and other toiletries.

Jane Onobhayedo, director /talent leader, EY West Africa reiterated that every year EY set this day apart to interact with the communities around us. According to her, “We have chosen for some years now to touch base with the less privilege in the orphanage homes, to touch base with special needs children and to support schools. We have an educational initiative where we help secondary schools within our vicinity to revamp their infrastructure.”

The EY team also visited the children development centre, Surulere where it donated foodstuffs and other items to support the organisation in caring for the mentally challenged children.

The director of the development center thanked the company for its kind gesture in identifying with them during this Christmas period.
