Only verified students eligible for loans – NELFUND

…directs institutions to upload data as preparations for 2025/2026 session begins 

The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has called on all tertiary institutions across the country to commence the process of updating and uploading verified student records ahead of the official opening of its loan application portal for the 2025/2026 academic session.

This was contained in a statement signed by Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, Director of Strategic Communications.

NELFUND noted that only students whose details have been duly uploaded, verified, and approved through their respective institutions will be eligible to apply for and benefit from the Federal Government’s student loan scheme.

NELFUND emphasised that the collaboration of institutions is critical to ensuring a seamless application process and the equitable distribution of loan benefits.

The Fund urged universities, polytechnics, colleges of education, and other approved tertiary institutions to designate qualified officers to oversee the data upload exercise in line with the technical guidelines provided.

“NELFUND recognises the vital role that tertiary institutions play in the success of the Education Loan Scheme and seeks their continued cooperation and partnership in achieving the collective goal of expanding access to higher education for all eligible Nigerian students.

“Only students whose details have been duly uploaded and verified through their respective institutions will be eligible to apply for and benefit from the loan scheme. As such, NELFUND urges all institutions to commence and complete the upload process promptly, designating appropriate officers to oversee this critical exercise in line with the provided technical guidelines,” the statement read in part.

The Fund noted that preparations are already in top gear for the next phase of the loan rollout, which aims to expand access to higher education financing and support thousands of Nigerian students in the forthcoming academic session.
