Bimpe Aderiye, the commissioner for education, science, and technology in Ekiti State has directed public and private schools in the state to resume the third term academic session on Wednesday, May 4, 2022.
The commissioner gave the directive in a statement signed by Abimbola Dada, the ministry’s information officer on Tuesday in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital.
Aderiye in the statement appealed to parents and guardians to set in place suitable preparations that would ensure hitch-free resumption of their children and wards.
She reiterated that the appeal has become essential for the children not to miss out on their school activities which are expected to commence as of the schools’ resume.
The commissioner maintained that the state government’s obligation towards evolving qualitative education in the administration of the incumbent governor remains unchanged. However, she reminded the citizens of Ekiti State that such success requires collective efforts of all and sundry, including the stakeholders and shareholders in the sector.

BusinessDay was informed by a school in Isolo suburb of Lagos the resumption directive was in compliance with the federal government’s instruction that works resume on Wednesday, May 4, after the two days of public holidays.
Recall that the federal government had declared May 2 and May 3 as public holidays to mark the 2022 Workers’ Day and Eid-Al-Fitr celebration, respectively.
Some of the teachers expressed their dismay over the sudden directive to resume work today.
Bisola Olushola, a teacher with a private school could not hide her sadness over the development.
“We were actually informed that schools will be resuming on Thursday, May 5, and we had planned towards resuming on Thursday, only to be directed late last night to report for duty today.
“It is not that one does not want to work, but the policymakers should be firm and focused. For instance, what is the idea behind resuming last week only to embark on holidays again?
“We should have been allowed to just on May 4 out rightly,” she said.
For Ikechukwu Oduala, a teacher in a school at Ago-Palace Way in Okota, said, “There is nothing much at stake, resuming on Wednesday and Thursday is almost the same thing, just that sometimes, the way these directives come looks more as if the policy implementers are not coordinated in my view.”
