Precious Kids Education Empowerment, an Australian-based non-governmental organisation (NGO), has reiterated commitment in its partnership with the Abia State government to improve standard of education in the state.

This is as the NGO successfully completed a refresher course for primary school teachers in thesState.

Sahera Sumar, a member of the Precious Kids Education Empowerment, in an interview with BusinessDay, stated that Australia would help Abia to upgrade its school system to conform to what was obtainable anywhere in the world.

She said that her organisation would create more awareness in Australia to attract more teachers and create more links between schools in Australian and Abia.

According to her, we would create more awareness and share our experiences. I’m sure Australians will really help in different directions when we share our experiences with them and we hope to attract books, toys and school equipment to the State.

Sumer, who was impressed with the warmth reception accorded the team, by their host, said they made long lasting friendship, noting that so many people have touched their hearts.

“We would be very happy to come back and continue this work. We are partnering with you now to see the schools are improved.

“For us we are committed to the programme and hope it will continue. In our meeting with the Governor, we were convinced that the Abia State Government is keen in improving education and empowering children.

“The Governor is committed to building infrastructure for conducive learning environment and we are building on this confidence to sustain this programme, “she said.

The programme according to her is centred on children and aims at creating a strong learning environment for them

“We are now in a technological world, children are open to so much information, consequently teachers have to be taught on how to do things and teach in new and different ways”.

She explained that the programme has exposed the teachers to think and act in different ways. “We have connected with a lot of teachers and I think this is a tip of an iceberg. And while we have opened up their minds, we have additional works to do.

She also stated that the programme provided an opportunity for them to make a difference and contribute to something that is different.

“After working in Australia and internationally, this was an opportunity to impact lives in a very different way. I was excited to be part of this inspirational programme, “she said.
