Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has confirmed that the club has not received any official bid for star striker Alexander Isak, amid ongoing speculation linking the Swedish international with a summer move to Liverpool.
The 25-year-old forward, who has not travelled with the squad for their pre-season tour of Asia due to what the club described as a “minor thigh injury”, is reportedly assessing his options ahead of a possible transfer. However, Howe has reiterated that Isak remains under contract and no formal approach has been made.
Speaking at a news conference in Seoul, Howe said:
“He is still our player. He’s contracted to us. We, to a degree, control what is next for him. I would love to believe all possibilities are still available to us. My wish is that he stays, but that’s not in my full control. We have not received a formal offer for Isak from any club.”
Liverpool, despite completing the £69 million signing of French forward Hugo Ekitike, is believed to still hold an interest in Isak, who has three years remaining on the deal he signed after joining Newcastle from Real Sociedad in 2022 for a reported £60 million.
Isak enjoyed a prolific campaign last season, netting 27 goals in all competitions and taking his tally to 62 goals in 109 appearances for the Magpies.
Newcastle continue to insist that Isak is not for sale, but with the transfer window still open, speculation is expected to persist.
