The Government of Ebonyi State has said that the ongoing construction of the 28-span flyover at Vanco Junction, Abakaliki, is a key component of the State’s economic development agenda.
Stanley Mbam, the Ebonyi State Commissioner for Works, stated this in Abakaliki, describing the 28-span flyover and its accompanying 1-kilometre tunnel as a “signature achievement” of Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru’s administration, aimed at enhancing urban renewal and unlocking investment opportunities.
“We need it now because, shortly, the level of development that will take place here may make it difficult to access and expand the area. Now is the time to expand and upgrade it as much as we can. This will attract investors and people to Ebonyi State.”, he noted.
He also pointed to the State’s expanding aviation infrastructure as a key complement to the flyover.
“The airport is already operational, and the government’s airport will soon be open for flights. All these efforts are geared toward making the environment more conducive for investment,” he added.
Mbam urged citizens to support the administration’s development drive, assuring that the State is on course to achieve lasting prosperity.
On the project’s timeline, he expressed confidence that it would be completed within the stipulated 24-month period.
“Despite the rainy season and anticipated challenges such as rock formations that required blasting to reach the design depth for the foundation we’ve made steady progress. With the pace we are going, I’m confident the project will be completed on schedule.
“We strictly follow specifications. Our quality control team collects samples of concrete, reinforcement, aggregates, and sand for laboratory testing to ensure compliance with design standards. I’m very confident this project will stand the test of time”, he noted.
Mbam expressed satisfaction with the quality of work so far and commending the contractors and technical team for their dedication.
