Former English footballer, Ray Wilkins has come out in defence of Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, suggesting the German shouldn’t be judged until next season. The Reds struggled in Germany in the Europa League, failing to beat Augsburg in their last-32 tie.
Klopp, who replaced Brendan Rodgers who was sacked by the Merseyside outfit in November, hasn’t made the impact desired at Anfield.
The former Borussia Dortmund boss has only won seven of his 18 Premier League games in charge of the 18-time English champions. However, Ray Wilkins has launched a staunch defence of the manager, suggesting he should not be judged on results until next season once he’s built his own side.
“We can judge Jurgen until next year,” Wilkins said to BT Sports.
“When he has had a chance to bring in the players that he wants to bring to the club.
“Then we can judge their performances. This Liverpool team is quite average.”
Liverpool have the weekend off after losing 2-1 to West Ham at Upton Park in the fourth round of the FA Cup giving them plenty of time to rest ahead of next weekend’s League Cup final against Man City.
