Discovery Air, a new airline planning to launch domestic services soon, has taken delivery of another aircraft, B737-300, which landed in Lagos from England at the weekend, bringing to two, the number of aircraft in its fleet.
According Abdusalami Muhammed, managing director of the airline, “The acquisition of this additional aircraft is in line with our vision to commence operations soon in the Nigeria aviation market. With the minimum requirement of two aircraft by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority which we have met, we are good to go.
“We hope by the end of the month everything will be completed and we will start operations immediately. We are more than ready. We are on track. As soon as all the necessary requirements are met, the Airline Operators Certificate (AOC) issued, we will begin operations, emphasise our mission of providing a Safe, Affordable, Fast and Efficient travel solution through excellent customer service delivery,” he added.
At the inspection of the new aircraft, Taiwo Osinloye, the team leader, Internal Audit and Control of First Deepwater Discovery Limited, said it is good to start on a good note.
“They are following due process and it is good for future cost implication in all ramification. In the nearest future, I see Discovery Air rubbing shoulders with the likes of Arik Air, Aero and the rest,” she said. Also speaking, Davids Odeyemi, sales and marketing manager, said: “the market is viable and very competitive but with what we have on ground, we will penetrate the market. Also, the staff is in high spirit with their experiences, they are ready for operations.
The airline will commence operations to Abuja, Lagos, and Port Harcourt but would expand the routes structure as it brings in more aircraft.
