The key message which the speakers who spoke at Akintola Williams Deloitte 2014 International Women’s Day left for women across the country is that they need to be focused in whatever they do in order to achieve their dream.
“I am saying let us be more focused and dogged in some of the things we want to do”, Titilayo Akisanya, CEO, Theta Alpha Consults limited said in an interview with BDSUNDAY at the occasion.
Looking at the challenges women face at workplace she said really depends on the women because they need to know who they are in terms of awareness and self confidence.
“If you talk about challenges, women should work harder than the men. We have to learn some of those competencies and even the political competences. I am not saying we should sell ourselves”, she said.
According to her, one of the challenges of women is they are not forward looking, in other words they are not visionary.
“I believe women can even do better than men in the workplace. And again God has blessed us with a lot of intuitive sense that the men do not have. The men may be street wise but we women are intuitive and with the intuition, you can conquer somebody who is street wise. With doggedness, determination and hard work we will be able to get ahead of men. Women are very entrepreneurial. God has blessed us with that and we are multi-tasking. I want to encourage women by saying God has blessed us with a lot and we should play to our strength”, Akisanya told women.
Tawanda Gumbo, Transitional Leader, Akintola Williams Deloitte, challenged the women to make the world of business conform to who they are as women and not the other way. “They must change the world of business so that we appreciate what they bring into life and into business. We are here today to celebrate most important people in our lives that bring a very different dimension to the world as well as in business and that is why it is important for me to be here to support,” he said.
Ebunola Anozie, CEO, national coordinator of Care, Organization Public Enlightenment, stressed the need for women to be recognized and celebrated while they are alive.
She said there are a lot of ways women can be empowered which include having knowledge, being focused and having the determination to achieve.
“You have to retrain yourself every time. Believe in yourself. Believe you can do it, do not give up no matter the situation”, she said.
In her message to all the women, Uchenna Ifesinachi, senior partner, at Akintola Williams Deloitte, said “Do not believe there is noting you can not achieve. The important thing is for to be focused, work hard, trust God, believe in Him, have patience, endurance and tolerate people”.
