The Nasarawa State Government said that it would live no stone unturned to halt any possible outbreak of the world’s latest dreaded disease, coronavirus (COVID-19) to the state.
This is just as the state government has set up a team of medical experts, trained in that line to tackle and effectively respond to the gradual spread of the COVID-19 in the country.
The State Commissioner of Health, Ahmed Yahaya stated this in an interview with newsmen on Friday in Lafia.
He explained that the response team, who are well trained and kitted health personnel, are domiciled at the Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital (DASH), Lafia and Federal Medical Centre, Keffi.
“The Isolation centres in the two hospitals were well equipped and we got some facilities from the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC),” the Commissioner.
The Commissioner directed all Primary Healthcare Centres and Secondary healthcare facilities to promptly reports any suspected case to the state response team.
According to him, the state is prepared to contain any outbreak of the disease, adding that government had directed all relevant Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to watch out and be precaution in their conduct.
He called on all relevant stakeholders and the general public to report any football player or any contractor suspected to have suffering from any symptom to the ministry for the appropriate measure.
He said that it has developed a partnership with the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) for quick report and response on any passenger with any symptom of the virus.
The Commissioner also called on the media to take it as a point of duty to create awareness to the public on measures to avoid contracting the disease.
Yahaya also urged residents of the state to improve on their personal and environmental hygiene, insisting such moves remain the only way to avoid being infected with the virus and curtailing it’s spread.
